High School Student Launches World's First Fully Interchangeable Sunglasses

Young entrepreneur launches his groundbreaking product on crowd funding Website Indiegogo

PRINCETON JUNCTION, N.J., April 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Matthew Sheffield may only be 18 years old, but has been an entrepreneur since he was 12 years old, and his most recent venture, "Shady Eyedeas, The First Interchangeable Sunglasses," is shaping up to be a huge success. Matt just launched his product on the popular crowd funding website, Indiegogo (http://igg.me/at/shady/x/2837348) with the goal of raising $25 thousand to bring his idea to market. If successful, his sunglasses could be shipping as early as this summer.

The feature which makes Shady Eyedeas revolutionary is Matt's patent pending mechanism, which allows the sunglasses to be customized as often as you want using a full line of interchangeable parts. "When I was shopping online for sunglasses, I discovered many great color combinations, but buying them all wasn't possible, not on a teenager's budget. I realized that all of the sunglasses used the same parts, just in different combinations.  It seemed both wasteful and not cost effective. That is how I came up with Shady Eyedeas." Shady Eyedeas is a collection of 8 color frames and arms, as well as 4 lenses, all of which are fully interchangeable, eliminating wasteful spending on duplicate parts. Priced at only $30 a pair, and $150 for the entire collection, Shadys are significantly less expensive than designer sunglasses.

Working with an engineer and designer, Matt created sunglasses that he describes as a modernization of a classic design. "I did not set out looking to design an entirely new style of sunglasses. My goal was to take a design which has been popular for decades, and add my own twist," said Matt.

Matt's favorite part of telling people about Shadys is what he calls "Shady Math." By owning 2 pairs of Shadys, you can make 8 unique pairs of sunglasses using different combinations of the Shady parts. If you own 3 pairs, you can create 81 unique pairs, and his favorite statistic, "If you own the entire collection of just 4 pairs of lenses, and 8 sets of parts, you can create over 2000 unique pairs of Shadys." According to Matt "Customizing Shadys is really simple and thanks to my patent pending mechanism, the entire process requires no tools. In less than a minute you can customize an entire pair."
