Healthcare Reform and Green Initiatives Trigger Explosive Growth in UV Disinfection Technologies

VALENCIA, Calif., July 14, 2009 — The healthcare industry is under attack from all sides. The Obama Administration has asked hospitals to give up $155 billion in future Medicare and Medicaid payments to fund healthcare reform, all the while operating and energy costs continue to rise; insurance providers pay later, pay less and demand more; patients are postponing (profitable) elective surgery; and fewer patients maintain adequate insurance coverage to pay for needed care. In the midst of this crisis, Lumalier Corporation, a U.S. manufacturer of advanced Ultraviolet Germicidal Disinfection Equipment, is experiencing unprecedented growth.

"Sales of Tru-D, a Total Room Disinfection Device, have increased over 250% this year," said Chuck Dunn, President and CEO of Lumalier. According to the manufacturer, Tru-D is an advanced, automated, mobile air and surface disinfection device. "Tru-D is more thorough than manual cleaning protocols and is automated to eliminate human error. It reduces chemical usage and provides fast disinfection of surfaces and air in the hospital environment," said Dunn. "Hospitals are able to reduce costs without reducing services and can turn over rooms more efficiently while insuring that new patients enter a clean and healthy environment."

That's good news to Hospital Administrators and Infection Control Practitioners challenged to provide increased patient care and efficient facility usage with ever-shrinking  dollars. Independent Tru-D studies presented at the annual APIC conference (Association of Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology) were overwhelmingly favorable, verifying the manufacturer's claims, and creating a backlog of interest.

As a result of this growth, Lumalier announced the opening of a new West Coast office in Valencia, California. Katja Auer has been selected as Director of Business Development for Lumalier Corporation, and will manage the West Coast office. "Lumalier is very methodical in seeking out the best and brightest in our field of UV Disinfection. Katja is a highly qualified, respected professional within the UV industry," stated Dunn. "We look forward to the expertise and knowledge she will provide to our organization. She will be a major asset to our clients worldwide."

Ms. Auer holds a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from Connecticut State University, Master's Degree in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Arizona and an MBA from the University of LaVerne. She brings a remarkable diversity of experience in technical sales, management, ISO and FDA quality systems, product R&D, and customer support. She is a voting member and secretary of ASHRAE's TC2.9 Technical Committee on UV Air and Surface Disinfection, and is corresponding member and secretary of the ASHRAE SPC-185 Committee for developing methods of test standards for UV.

Lumalier Corporation is a leading manufacturer of UV germicidal air and surface disinfection equipment for healthcare, correctional, educational, government and private sectors. Lumalier produces a full line of UVC products for the commercial HVAC market, providing the key benefits of cleaner, healthier air, reductions in HVAC maintenance costs, and reductions in energy consumption.
