Harte Group Expands Global Network to Support Pharmaceutical Companies

Network employs over 7,900 experienced staff to support unique full-service Contract Research Organization model

DOYLESTOWN, Pa., Nov. 30, 2009 — Harte Group, a global company who manages and represents Functional Service Providers for support of clinical development needs, announced today that its growing network of partners has reached 44 companies, employing over 7,900 experienced staff with an average company life of 13 years in business.

Due to a changing landscape within clinical development operations and the market being underserved by the existing full-service CRO model, the Harte Group created a unique full-service CRO offering – one built by leveraging very talented smaller companies who focus on their core offering. Many sponsors have been looking for alternatives to support smaller programs in their portfolio, as well as looking for more creative, cost-effective ways to execute their clinical programs and projects.

“I am excited by the high level of interest in this Functional Services Provider model. Many of the talented, experienced staff which rests in these companies have worked in sponsor or CRO settings previously. They are artisans who wish to practice their chosen craft, and enjoy the companies who employ them – thus, turnover percentages are very small. This business model, managed by the seasoned team of the Harte Group, appears to address many pains and challenges associated with the full-service CRO paradigm,” said Michael Harte, Founder & President of the Harte Group. “Having experience in industries outside of pharmaceuticals, I have witnessed and participated in similar models that work very well. They are transparent, flexible, accountable and cost-effective – some of which is not synonymous with the current offerings today.”

Harte cites a recent Clinpage article, which highlights a statistic related to CRO quality. The survey received feedback from many different sponsor sources – of the respondents, 69% were neutral to strongly disagree when asked if CROs provide good quality. “This is a reflection on an older business model that needs to change. There are many good, talented people who work within these full-service companies – many times they are hindered by poor process or other reasons. I am only too excited to exploit a new paradigm with the high level of talent and hunger to succeed which rests in my network of companies,” said Harte. Harte mentioned that their team is in active discussions with both large pharma and smaller biotechnology firms.
