Halloween Party's Sexy, Rockin' "Voodoo" in Contention for Oscar Nomination in Original Song Category

Underdog indie selection, "Voodoo" by Nashville songwriters CJ Watson and Bruce Michael Miller, competing against big name artists

LONG BEACH, Calif., Dec. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Underdog original song, "Voodoo" by Nashville songwriters CJ Watson and Bruce Michael Miller, finds itself "Oscar" eligible in a land of giants (Adele, Katy Perry, Dolly Parton, Jon Bon Jovi, Christina Aguilera, and the list goes on). The opening tune, one of 28 originals in the romantic comedy Halloween Party, mixes elements of Creedence and Janis Joplin with a screaming violin solo that owes more to Jimi Hendrix than Itzhak Perlman.

As the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences improves the "Best Original Song" category with new rules and the promised five songs, this little "David" may ultimately have a chance against "Goliath." Coming off a recent win for "Best Soundtrack" at the Laughlin International Film Festival, the Halloween Party team is pretty excited. Local Long Beach producers, Linda Palmer, Mark Cardone and Sandy Robinson are hoping their little indie might find the same pot of gold as the 2007 winner, ONCE.

Most of the songs originated in Nashville with 22 coming from Shadow Mountain Publishing, LLC alone. Of those, six were written specifically for the film with SMP's President, Donna Britton serving as a songwriter for the theme song, and a featured performer on "Voodoo."

The song is also on the radar of some of the best cine-file movie blogs and bloggers including Awards Circuit, committed to providing both casual and informed cinema enthusiasts with professional, unbiased awards coverage.

Says songwriter Bruce Michael Miller, "It's like a Christmas Miracle… that our little band and song is making its way into the big tent. The best part is that I'm in it with my friends and family – they really deserve the credit for tolerating my insanity all these years in pursuing a crazy dream. I am so grateful to CJ Watson, Donna Britton and Linda Palmer for making this happen and to my brilliant son Forest Miller, for adding his sparkle to it all. Win or lose I am happy for the song. Thank you guys for driving this train."

"The only thing I'm more grateful for than being in the running for an Academy Award is having so many of the people I love involved in the making of this song," adds CJ Watson.
