Growing Number of Students Learn English Online Over Mobile Devices, TalktoCanada Reports

More students are taking lessons on the go using devices such as the iPad; mobile learning has taken to the streets

OTTAWA, Ontario, July 18, 2011 — TalktoCanada, the company trusted by Ernst & Young, Novartis and Saudi Telecom for English language training, has reported a surge in students using mobile devices to learn English online.

Founded in 2006, the company has spearheaded using WebEx and Skype to connect with students around the globe. With the rise of the tablet, students are increasingly relying on downloadable apps for Skype and Facebook to connect to TalktoCanada's language training solutions.

"With over 25 million iPads sold, it was only a matter of time for students to begin connecting with us for English mobile learning. We anticipate that 40% of TalktoCanada's students will join our classrooms from iPads over the next 24 months," says Marc Anderson, Managing Director of TalktoCanada.

Mobile learning is rapidly re-defining how TalktoCanada is teaching, learning and interacting in educational environments. Much of the training material is already cloud-based, and social media is broadly accepted as a communication channel.

"Facebook was initially a place for students to connect with one another. Today, TalktoCanada is using Facebook to connect with students on computers, mobiles and tablets to spark discussion and communicate training information," says Marc Anderson.

The popularity of mobile learning online English isn't likely to fade anytime soon. Gartner, the leading analyst firm, is predicting that 208 million tablets will be in use by 2014, up from an estimated 54 million in 2011.

"Mobile devices are a perfect extension of learning English, allowing learners to engage in short bursts of learning while waiting in line, on the subway or sitting at home," says Marc Anderson.

TalktoCanada was founded in 2006 and credits its success in online English language training to the global acceptance of communication tools such as Skype and WebEx.
