The Certification in Applied Functional Science® (CAFS) is appropriate for both beginning and experienced movement professionals. With the launch of this course, those interested in learning a structured, practical application of Applied Functional Science® can now do so at their own pace, from their own home. Online delivery of course material has proven to be an efficient and cost-effective way to pursue professional development opportunities.

Combining 23 hours of video content with a wealth of supporting documentation, CAFS is completely self-paced, allowing busy professionals to view the course content and take the exams on their own schedule. Credits earned in this course are recognized by California APTA, NATABOC, ACSM, ACE, PTA Global and SCW. Pending approval are NASM, NSCA and several state APTA organizations. The CAFS curriculum consists of seven modules:

  1. Introduction
  2. Foundations of Movement Science
  3. Assessment and Programming Strategies
  4. Global (Fundamental) Movement Techniques
  5. Local Movement Techniques
  6. Program Design & Programming Variables
  7. Conclusion and Bonus Material

As a methodology, Applied Functional Science utilizes a process that has the principles and truths of human movement as its foundation. Rather than an approach that relies on rigid protocols or screens, practitioners of Applied Functional Science® utilize a unique philosophy of observation and application that enables custom assessment and individualized approaches to treatment and training. Complementary to movement professionals of all disciplines, the Applied Functional Science® process magnifies the experiential knowledge and enhances the existing skillsets of practitioners from all backgrounds. The goal is to tailor a safe and effective strategy that both addresses the patient or client's issues while recognizing his or her strong points.
