GDA Technologies Announces Availability of Reference Design Kit for Freescale Semiconductor’s MPC8555 PowerQUICC(TM) III Processor

DALLAS, April 26, 2004 — Smart Networks Developer Forum (SNDF) — GDA Technologies, Inc., a fast growing supplier of Electronic Design Services (EDS), announced the availability of its Reference Design Kit for the MPC8555 PowerQUICC(TM) III processor from Freescale Semiconductor, a wholly owned subsidiary of Motorola Inc.

GDA’s Reference Design Kit is based on the MPC8555, a communications processor with integrated security from Freescale’s PowerQUICC III family. GDA’s reference platform is a PCI form factor board that supports dual PCI interfaces and a full complement of other features, including a SODIMM slot for DDR memory, Flash memory, two Gigabit Ethernet ports and a serial port. The GDA Reference Design Kit will be initially available with Embedded Linux Board Support Package. Support for other Operation Systems will be available in the third quarter of 2004.

The MPC8555 RDK is a new addition to GDA’s portfolio of Freescale product-based reference designs designed for the PowerQUICC III family of communication processors. With the MPC8555 RDK, embedded developers, OEMs and system integrators who have become accustomed to other PowerQUICC III family products can migrate to a security-enabled product, while leveraging previous application development experiences to shorten the ever-critical time-to-market metric.

The MPC8555 processor with integrated security provides a powerful, highly integrated processing solution for a multitude of compute-intensive communications and networking applications, ranging from VPN and regional office routers to enterprise-class storage and Ethernet switching equipment to residential gateways and integrated access devices. The MPC8555 processor’s security engine supports the widely used DES, 3DES, MD-5, SHA-1, AES, and ARC-4 encryption algorithms. It also offers a public key accelerator and an on-chip random number generator.

"GDA has been one of the early enablers of the PowerQUICC III family of processors with reference designs around Freescale’s flagship MPC8540 and MPC8560 processors. We are excited to follow up with a new MPC8555 based reference design kit. Freescale Semiconductor is the industry leader in the communications processor market, and GDA will continue to provide solutions around this industry-leading family of processors," said Gopa Periyadan, Vice President and GM of System and Software Design Business Unit at GDA.

GDA is a member of Freescale’s Smart Networks Alliance Program (SNAP) in the capacity of a design services provider for hardware, software and reusable IP blocks. GDA is also a member of Freescale’s Design Alliance Program (DAP), which allows Freescale and its clients to utilize engineering design services offered by GDA in systems, boards, SoCs, ASICs, FPGAs and IPs.
