Firefighters and Veterans Team Up on New Business

They work together to design a system to protect homes in forest fires

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Aug. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Roy Dalton, a CIVILIAN firefighter stationed at the US Air Force Academy, and Herman DeBoard, a Disabled American Veteran who served in the US Air Force in the first Gulf War, have invented a new fire deterrent system for the exterior of a home. After filing a patent on the invention, the two assembled a team of experts including more firefighters and Veterans and have begun the process of selling and installing the units all over the country.

THE INVENTION

House Hydrant Systems start the process of protecting the outside of your home from super-heated air from an approaching wildland or forest fire by using heat sensors that can detect the super-heated air which automatically turn on a special sprinkler system on top of and around your home to make your house wet before the Fire Department arrives.

BACKGROUND ON THE INVENTION

Dalton, while serving as a strike team leader during The Black Forest Fire in Colorado, used very non-traditional methods to protect a house. Today, as we visited the home, it is the lone house standing among ashes as far as you can see. "During the heat of the battle, Captain Dalton decided to climb on top of the roof of the home and place the owners' sprinkler system on it to help cool and protect the house as the fire approached." He raced to attach as many sprinkler heads as possible, but very soon, his Fire Chief ordered them to retreat because the fire was attacking them from behind the house. The team sprinted to safety not knowing if their efforts would pay off. The team recently returned to the house. The owners welcomed us with big hugs and wanted to hear every second of the story of how their house was saved. When we stood in their yard talking to them, and panned a 360 view, every home around them burned…yet theirs stood with only minor damage. Everything around them was black…yet their grass was still green and their memories were intact and hanging on the walls where they left them. They were incredibly grateful to see Dalton and thanked him over and over.  House Hydrant Systems was developed based on how Roy Dalton chose to protect this particular house in the absence of a fire hydrant.
