Epic Dance Battles and a New Car Giveaway Among the Many Attractions at OktoberFest and Run 2013

H2OpenDoors project and Redwood City Education Foundation will receive 100% of the day's net proceeds

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Sept. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — October 12 is shaping up to be a day to remember; with so much to see and do, the biggest challenge for visitors to Redwood City's Oktoberfest and Run (http://www.oktoberfestandrun.com/) may just be fitting everything into a single day. In addition to the beer tents and running events, new festivities this year include a dance stage and a drawing for a new car. Best of all, 100% of the day's net proceeds benefit local charities, including the H2OpenDoors project (http://www.h2opendoors.org/).

"Oktoberfest and Run is a great way to build a sense of fun and community, all while supporting some great causes," commented Jon Kaufman, member of Peninsula Sunrise Rotary Club. "The H2OpenDoors project is pleased to be a part of this year's celebration."

Oktoberfest and Run organizers have made a commitment to offering something for everyone. For instance, a video game theater and bounce house will keep the younger set safely occupied while parents enjoy the food, beer and music. Teens won't be left out, either: an urban art area will feature a giant mural project along with t-shirt painting. The goal is to become the premiere family-friendly event in Redwood City.

As always, free entertainment figures to be one of the day's biggest draws. Capitalizing on the success of televised dance competitions, Bay Area dance troupes plan to make a dynamic appearance at this year's OktoberFest. A stage area called OktoberJam will provide the setting for hip hop, freestyle and break dance battles.

A fantastic event would be incomplete without at least one fantastic prize. To that end, all participants in the marathon, half-marathon and 5Kolor run will automatically be entered into a drawing for a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta. Boardwalk VW is providing the car, and the winner will be randomly selected at 1:30. CBS TV and radio personality Liam Mayclem will present the keys to the lucky winner.

Kaufman added: "With free entertainment for everyone, plus the chance for all registered runners to win the Volkswagen lease, we expect a large turnout at Oktoberfest and Run. Naturally, more visitors means more money raised for a trio of great causes."

A project of the Redwood City Rotary Clubs, the mission of H2OpenDoors is to bring clean water to people in the developing world. Contaminated water results in 3.5 million deaths each year, nearly all of them preventable. Solar-powered SunSpring™ filtration units can provide 5,000 gallons of safe water every day, giving villages and schools a much improved health outlook. Not only that, residents can sell surplus water on the local market, providing new economic opportunities.

Unfortunately, the people who most need these units can't afford them. Each SunSpring™ costs $28,000, an impossible sum for those living in the developing world. The mission of H2OpenDoors is to leverage creative fundraising efforts to bring these life-saving filtration units to needy communities. Donations also make it possible to send technicians to teach locals how to operate and maintain their units for the long haul.

H2OpenDoors and the Redwood City Rotary Clubs are thrilled to participate in this year's Oktoberfest and Run. Jon Kaufman and the entire Rotary organization invite everyone to come out and enjoy the day's events, knowing that proceeds will go toward making life better for people around the globe.
