According to Employment Attorney David Scher Augusta National Golf Club's Men-Only Policy Draws Criticism of Discrimination Against Women in the Workplace

WASHINGTON and LOS ANGELES, April 6, 2012 — The Employment Law Group law firm warns that women could continue to suffer discrimination in the workplace if the Augusta National Golf Club and other similar organizations don't change their membership rules. At the start of this year's closely watched Masters Tournament, Augusta National Golf Club is attracting a lot of attention for playing host to the famous competition, but it is also garnering a ton of scrutiny for its men-only membership policy.

"It is time for this type of discrimination to end. It serves no purpose other than to make it harder for women and minorities to succeed," said David Scher, managing principal of The Employment Law Group who handles workplace gender discrimination cases.

"Playing golf and other pastimes is integral to the business world, and outright discrimination against women in the private golf world, although technically legal, can have a severe and lasting illegal impact in the workplace," he said.

According to Scher, such exclusive clubs give men professional advantage that women and other minorities are simply not privy to and make employers liable for discrimination claims.
