Dr. Mark Werner Named President of American College of Physician Executives

NEW YORK, April 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — The American College of Physician Executives (ACPE) today announced the selection of the new members and officers of the 2013-14 board of directors, including the appointment of Mark Werner, MD, CPE, FACPE, as ACPE president and chairman of the board.

Also selected as officers are Lynn Helmer, MD, MBA, FACP, CPE, FACPE, who will serve as vice-president, and John Keats, MD, CPE, FACOG, FACE, secretary-treasurer. New board members are William R. Casperson, MD, FACS, CPE, FACPE; Napoleon B. Knight, MD, CPE, CMSL, FACPE; and Anthony D. Slonim, MD, DrPH, CPE, FACPE.

Dr. Werner's one-year term as president began during the 2013 ACPE Annual Meeting in New York, NY.

Dr. Werner was recently named senior vice president and chief clinical and innovation officer at Medica, an insurance corporation based in Minnesota. He previously served as chief clinical integration officer at Fairview Health Services in Minneapolis, where he provided strategic vision for the development of a physician-led integrated care network.

Before joining Fairview, Dr. Werner was president of Carilion Clinic Physicians and executive vice president and chief medical officer for the Carilion Clinic, where he led Carilion's transformation from a hospital operating company to a physician-led integrated clinic.

Dr. Werner received his undergraduate degree in biochemistry with honors from Rice University and his medical degree with honors from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in pediatrics at Vanderbilt before completing a fellowship in adolescent medicine at Cincinnati Children's Medical Center.
