Murderer of Son of John Walsh (America’s Most Wanted); African American in DNA Controversy; French Medic Killed Refugees Who Fled Nazi-Occupied Country
RIVERDALE, N.Y., Nov. 4, 2009 — Their crimes span the globe, but one thing unites them: they are sixteen of the twentieth century’s most notorious serial killers and author Harvey Rosenfeld documents the facts from these killers in his book, “Depravity” (published by iUniverse). Rosenfeld says, “Serial killers have become an important factor in America’s unsolved murders. They may very well account for many of America’s five thousand unsolved killings each year. In addition, serial killers may be responsible for a large number of unknown murders each year, since many of their victims are drifters and prostitutes, so many have nobody to report them as missing.” One thing, however, is for certain: the topic of serial murderers both fascinates and horrifies the general public.
In his well-researched volume, Rosenfeld reveals the murderers’ motives and what made them tick. He leads readers along the path of investigators who broke cases and heard the words spoken from the killers’ mouths. The crime is confounding to most since they are a small collection of killers who murdered more than four victims while their heinous deeds all have certain characteristics, including common methods and motives. The sixteen featured in “Depravity” made their communities tremble in fear. They include:
Johann Otto Hoch, who moved to America from Germany in the 1890s, and married a string of women, but instead of being the man of their dreams, he became their worst nightmare.
Otis Toole, who killed Adam Walsh, son of John Walsh (America’s Most Wanted).
Carlton Gary, an African American who is at the center of a DNA controversy.
Learn about these and other serial killers and discover what motivated them to lead such horrible lives and how they were finally brought to justice.
