New trend of confidential inquiries from currently employed could have significant impact on employers’ abilities to realize their business plans
DALLAS, Feb. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ – Executive search and other recruiting firms receive a number of unsolicited resumes every day from individuals seeking their next career opportunity. During the past few years, the majority of these inquiries have come from people who are out of work.
However, in recent months, more employed individuals are beginning to contact recruiters indicating that they are confidentially seeking a new career. A number of articles and surveys have addressed this development, and many of those sources attribute this change to the confidence people are beginning to place in the economy. More people are no longer just happy to have a job – they are looking for something better or different.

They have been hesitant to replace retiring or resigning professionals, and they have managed to get by with fewer people. However, if voluntary departures increase, many of these organizations may be caught in a bind which could have an impact on their ability to achieve their business plans.
Employee retention programs, succession planning, talent development programs, and evaluation of compensation and benefit programs must be addressed. Furthermore, many employers may need to look closely at their hiring plans to begin to prepare themselves for the possibility of key managers and employees leaving for new opportunities.
