Eight Giant red snails have been placed around the famous monument created by Italian sculptor Gaetano Russo, erected as part of New York's 1892 commemoration of the 400th anniversary of Columbus' landing in the Americas. Curated by owner and director of Galleria Ca' d'Oro, Gloria Porcella, the exhibition will last through January 6th, 2014. The event was sponsored by Cassia and Dumbo Moving, and it was done in collaboration with Villa Firenze Foundation. Cassia is famous for building ocean reef villas in Florida, and takes its name from one of the most emblematic ancient Roman streets. Dumbo Moving has been for 6 years one of the leading moving companies in NY.

The eight foot snails are part of the REgeneration Art Project and are made of recyclable plastic obtained from landfills. The snails are a creation of the Cracking Art Group consisting of six international artists. The Group's intention is to change art history through both a strong social and environmental commitment, and a revolutionary and innovative use of different recyclable plastic materials.

Before arriving to Columbus Circle, the snails had been displayed in Central Park's Rumsey Field. The project had been possible thanks to Villa Firenze Foundation who sponsored Galleria Ca' d'Oro of Rome, Italy of an outdoor Italian Contemporary Art Exhibit as part of what has been proclaimed by the President of Italy as 2013 the Year of Italian Culture in the United States. The exhibit was under the patronage of the Ambassador of Italy to the United States. The extravagant red snails are esthetically pleasing and attract attention. During this event hundreds of children and adults have stopped to admire the snails. Many more people are expected to appreciate the joyful and, charming installation around the Circle during the holiday season.

From December 4th the snails will be also displayed in Eataly, one of New York's most renowned gastronomic locations, a purveyor of gourmet Italian foods. Galleria Ca' d'Oro is demonstrating once again its international prestige and acclaim by embarking in so many events in several hot spots of NYC, one of the leading places in the art-world.

The Galleria Ca' d'Oro is one of Rome's best known contemporary art galleries located in Piazza di Spagna. It was established in 1970 by Antonio Porcella, who is a member of the De Chirico Foundation in Rome. Gloria Porcella, who now heads the Galleria, has brought the experience and expertise of the Rome Galleria to the United States. In 2010 she opened a Galleria in Florida featuring pink snails of the REgeneration Art Project.
