ClearCanvas Releases First Commercial Version of Popular Clinical Radiology Workstation; PACS and RIS to Follow

TORONTO, April 15, 2011 — ClearCanvas Inc., an innovative medical imaging informatics company, today announced the commercial release of their clinical radiology workstation product, ClearCanvas Workstation, Clinical Edition. This marks the first time ClearCanvas has offered a commercial version of their widely accepted Workstation software, previously only offered as an open source application.

ClearCanvas open source software has been employed for over five years, with more than 14,000 worldwide users in a number of clinical settings. With such extensive application, commercial versions of the products were an obvious next step. ClearCanvas RIS/PACS recently received FDA 510(k) clearance. This important regulatory status allows for commercial distribution of the ClearCanvas software.

The ClearCanvas Workstation, Clinical Edition is available for purchase from the eStore on the ClearCanvas website as well as through a small but rapidly growing number of resellers worldwide.

ClearCanvas expects to release a commercial version of their PACS software suite in Q2 2011 with the commercial release of their RIS following in Q4 2011. Additional versions of the Workstation are already planned for 2011; product upgrades and technical support are included free of charge during the first license year. ClearCanvas will continue to release new versions of their open source software as well.

"Open source products have always been an integral part of who we are and that will not change," states Norman Young, company President and Founder. "At the same time, we also recognize how important it is to create a vibrant commercial ecosystem by bringing our products to different markets around the world. We are extremely excited to offer what so many of our users have been asking for — a commercial, FDA-cleared version of our very popular Workstation product."
