ALPHARETTA, Ga., Nov. 22, 2005 — Civitium, LLC, the market-leading consulting firm for Digital Community initiatives, has been selected to provide strategy, business planning and technical advisory services for WinstonNet, Inc., a non-profit community technology initiative with the goal of "bridging the digital divide" that currently exists in the Winston-Salem and Forsyth County, North Carolina communities.
"Applying wireless technology is a natural next step for WinstonNet to further its goal of promoting information and communication technology within the community," Lynda Goff, Executive Director of WinstonNet, announced. "Civitium’s experience advising some of the most high-profile community wireless projects in the U.S. will be critical for WinstonNet to develop a business plan and execute on its vision."
WinstonNet has engaged Civitium to perform a feasibility study for using wireless broadband technology, assist in refining the project’s visions and objectives, inventory community assets and prepare a Request for Proposals (RFP) to solicit expressions of interest from the private sector.
"Civitium is excited to be working with WinstonNet to extend the reach of their more than 25 miles of optical fiber – and their pioneering deployment of computer labs – using wireless broadband technology," said Greg Richardson, Civitium’s founder and Managing Partner.
Operating as a partnership between many of the major academic, social, and corporate institutions in the Winston-Salem area, WinstonNet is a prototype for the nation, employing cutting-edge technology throughout the community to support universal and affordable Internet access.
