ALPHARETTA, Ga., May 16, 2006 — Civitium, LLC, the market-leading consulting firm for community broadband initiatives, has been retained to perform a social and economic impact assessment for the twin cities of Albury-Wodonga, Australia. As one of the largest inland population centers in Australia, the border cities of Albury-Wodonga straddle the Murray River, the border between New South Wales and Victoria, Australia.
"Improving broadband infrastructure in regional Australia has the incredible potential to build community capacity, and enhance regional social and economic outcomes," announced Lynda Summers, Deputy Chair of the Murray Regional Development Board. Over the last eight years, the Murray Regional Development Board has had auspice of the Murray Regional Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Committee and pursued activities with the aim of creating a "region of broadband excellence" within a competitive telecommunications environment. In 2002, the ICT Committee formed the Murray River Regional Telecommunications Company, which trades as CountryTell.
CountryTell has retained Civitium to advise on strategy, policy and technology issues, and to perform an assessment of the social and economic impact of the planned initiative in Albury-Wodonga.
