ALPHARETTA, Ga., July 26, 2005 — Civitium, LLC, the market-leading consulting firm for municipal broadband and Digital City initiatives, has been selected to provide strategic and technical advisory services to the City of Miami Beach, Florida. The destination for ten million visitors each year and home to the rich and famous is planning a citywide wireless broadband network that will support internal government use by public safety, public works, inspections, parking, and other government agencies. The network will also support free public access in hot zones located throughout the city.
"Wireless Miami Beach will make our city safer, our government more efficient, and provide our residents and visitors the opportunity to access information anytime," Jorge Gonzales, Miami Beach’s City Manager announced.
The City has engaged Civitium to complete a feasibility study, conduct a citywide radio frequency (RF) study, and author an RFP for vendors to compete for the design, deployment and management of the network. The RFP is expected to be released by early August 2005. The City expects to have the network operational by mid-2006.
