The City of Cape Coral Enables Leaner Government with AMX and JD Edwards

REXBURG, Idaho, March 6, 2009 — AMX International is excited to announce that the City of Cape Coral, Florida, has selected Oracle’s JD Edwards (JDE) to replace its legacy ERP, CIS and EAM applications.

Cape Coral is the third largest city (by land area) in Florida and the most populated city in Southwest Florida. The City is a residential, recreational, and vacation community, but due to its location midway between Tampa and Miami, Cape Coral serves a major distribution role distributing goods throughout parts of Florida, southeastern United States and the world.

In January of 2008, Cape Coral solicited bids from vendors to replace the city’s Financial ERP, CIS and EAM applications, as their aging legacy systems were no longer able to keep up with the needs of the city. This came on the heels of investing in an intensive evaluation of the city’s operations and infrastructure by an outside team of management consultants. Based on the outcome of this process, the decision was made to only consider systems with modern capabilities that could fulfill the city’s needs in a “vanilla out of the box” format. “It is important to implement best business practices around the system as opposed to designing the system around existing practices. This is the only way efficiencies can be obtained,” commented Mark Mason, Financial Services Director for the City. After an intensive evaluation process, the City of Cape Coral selected Oracle JD Edwards from AMX to meet the expanded requirements of the city.

One major benefit to the city’s selection of JD Edwards was AMX’s utility billing and CIS module, which is now completely embedded in the JD Edwards solution. This means that utilities have one source for all financial, work and asset information. AMX’s utility billing module for JDE creates records directly in JDE Accounts Receivable. Assets, such as meters, are managed in JDE Fixed Assets. Customer Service Orders are managed in JDE Work Orders. This improves reconciliation and dramatically reduces period close processes. This is a key differentiator between AMX and the competition, who still rely on multiple applications and costly integrations to keep systems communicating in sync. The flexibility of the AMX billing solution also allows convergence billing for other receivables within the City.

Since the process to implement the solution footprint began in January, AMX and Cape Coral are excited to move together through this process. “It has been a great experience working with the City through the selection process; we gained a much deeper understanding of what the City is striving to accomplish in their lean processing initiatives. Cape Coral is visionary in their mandate to implement a vanilla, completely integrated solution, focusing their energy on providing more services to their constituents with less. We look forward to a successful and long-lasting partnership with the City,” said Scott Sears, Vice President of Sales at AMX International.
