SPINDALE, N.C., March 19, 2009 — First Choice Armor is in the business of saving lives — but for this program they are focused on the lives of their employees.
“We decided to take inspiration from many different sources in the media, including the Biggest Loser television show, which has been highlighting successful weight loss on their program and has inspired companies to start their own weight-loss initiatives,” states Jerry Flynn, VP of Human Resources at First Choice Armor.
First Choice Armor has pledged to donate 1 pound of food for every pound lost. The weight-loss program that has been aptly named “Pounds 4 Food Program.” The food will be donated locally to the Yokefellow Food Bank in Rutherfordton, North Carolina (if you would like to make a donation, please send to Yokefellow Ministries, 1386 Shelton Avenue, Statesville, NC 28677). To entice participating employees to drop pounds, First Choice Armor is also awarding $1,000 and $500 prizes to employees that lose the most weight.
The Pounds 4 Food Program started at the beginning of February and will end March 31. Seventy-nine employees decided to participate and weighed in at 16,339 lbs.
“Our goal in this program was not a number on the scale for employees, it was to encourage healthy living and healthy habits while also giving back to the community,” states Flynn.
