Chartis Points Out Importance of Extended Service Plans for Holiday Shoppers

NEW YORK, Nov. 22, 2011 — With just days to go before Black Friday and Cyber Monday, millions of holiday shoppers are mapping out their strategies to find the best prices on flat screen TVs, smartphones, digital cameras, video recorders, audio equipment and household appliances. Nearly all will face that inevitable question: "Would you like to buy an extended service plan to protect your purchase?"

James Mostofi, President of Chartis' U.S. Warranty division, noted, "In the past, extended service plans were costly and limited to simply repairing and replacing broken products. Today's plans are more reasonably priced and address consumers' changing needs by protecting not only the product itself, but often the privacy of the personal data, contacts, music collections, video and photos that reside on smartphones, laptops and mobile devices."

Chartis provides warranty solutions to many of the world's largest retailers and manufacturers of consumer electronics, mobile devices and household appliances. Consumers have more service choices than ever before. The new service plans offered by both retailers and manufacturers range from "buy back" programs that insure against a product's obsolescence to full protection plans that cover failure, damage, loss or theft.

"For anyone who has ever experienced a broken washer or malfunctioning large screen television on or near Thanksgiving, having a single number to call to ensure that those expensive repairs will be made by a qualified technician is a wonderful holiday blessing," Mostofi added.
