Annandale Rotary Foundation raffle features 30 prizes, benefits global polio eradication and peace-building
ARLINGTON, Va., April 23, 2008 — The Annandale Rotary Foundation, Inc. has launched a charity raffle offering ticket-holders attractive odds and a Grand Prize sure to warm the hearts of soccer aficionados in Virginia and beyond: a trip for 2 to Basel, Switzerland to attend a quarterfinal match between the winner of Group C and the runner-up of Group D. A total of 300 tickets are offered at $100 per ticket. Net proceeds will benefit Rotary International's PolioPlus program, Score for Peace and students of the GMU Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution. The drawing will be in Annandale on May 17, 2008. The Grand Prize quarterfinal game in Basel will be played on June 21, 2008.
The Euro 2008 Raffle offers 30 prizes, or a 1:10 chance to win. The Grand Prize is a 4-day, 3-night trip for two to Switzerland, with 2 tickets to a Euro 2008 quarterfinal match that is highly in demand. Second prize is two premium season tickets for DC United. There are 28 third prizes: $25 gift certificates to Modell's Sporting Goods.
Tickets can be purchased in person, with members of the Annandale Rotary Foundation available by appointment to meet ticket purchasers at 12 locations in Rosslyn, Arlington, Alexandria, Annandale, Falls Church, McLean, Springfield or Burke, VA. The Annandale Rotary Foundation's Euro 2008 Raffle benefits, among others, Rotary International's PolioPlus Program, an initiative to immunize all of the world's children against polio. Since 1985, more than 2 billion children have received oral polio vaccine.
The second beneficiary of the Euro 2008 Raffle is Score For Peace, a program of the Institute for Multi-Track Diplomacy. Score For Peace uses sports played on a global scale as a means for promoting nonviolent interaction between peoples in conflict. The program arranges, sponsors and promotes international sports matches with ancillary conflict-resolution clinics and people-to-people programs to promote peace-building at all levels.
The third beneficiary of the raffle's proceeds is student scholarships at the Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution. As a part of George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, ICAR is committed to the research and development of best practices that interrupt the cycles of violence around the world. ICAR is a Commonwealth Center for Excellence and is recognized for its leadership in the field of conflict analysis and resolution.
