‘Bronco of 96: The Saga Begins’: Patsy H. Manley Debuts with New Historical Fiction for Young Adults

GREENWOOD, S.C., Dec. 15, 2009 — Discover a tiny South Carolina town and join Bronco, a spirited young boy, as he is propelled back to a distant time in the town’s history. He embarks on a series of adventures with memorable characters in “Bronco of 96″ (published by AuthorHouse), the rollicking new fiction by Patsy H. Manley.

Inspired by real people and places, “Bronco of 96″ centers around a young boy, nearly an adult but not quite, and the rural town of 96, S.C. Founded in the early 1700s, 96 is a town rich in history, and Manley expertly brings its heritage to life through a combination of thorough research and personal experience as a resident.

Living in today’s world, Bronco is like many other boys from 96. He enjoys hunting with his father and is always eager to top his last prize. When Bronco kills a tremendous buck, he and his father decide to have its head mounted and hung over the mantle in Bronco’s bedroom. When the buck’s head is mounted, Bronco’s world is thrust into unfamiliar territory. Manley writes:

That night a full moon hung over the Manley homeplace. Bronco’s bedroom was bathed in moonlight. It was bright enough for him to see the monster head over the mantle. He stared at the large buck’s profile. It turned slowly until it faced him. Bronco silently rolled out of bed. As he crossed his room to the fireplace, the mount returned to its original position. Fascinated and spellbound by this apparition, he was drawn to the eyes that reflected the moonlight. He placed his nose on the deer’s nose and looked deeply into the sparkling eyes.

Suddenly the room was aglow. Light came from all sides. Bronco was not afraid; he was very calm and interested. Something great was about to happen. A lighted doorway appeared and he stepped through it. To his surprise, he was carrying an armload of firewood.

Stepping through that door brings Bronco to 1755-era 96. His parents are there, working as a teacher and blacksmith, and the village is drastically different. Follow this brave young man as he sets out on a series of adventures that will teach him lessons he could never have imagined. “Bronco of 96: The Saga Begins” is a young adult book that offers romance, action and historical detail guaranteed to keep readers glued to the last page.
