The book is a visual celebration that demonstrates how Bestnet successfully embraced World Malaria Day 2011 as an excellent educational opportunity to make a difference in the lives of hundreds of children at risk from malaria, a devastating disease that claims the life of one child every 45 seconds.

As World Malaria Day – April 25, 2012 rapidly approaches, Bestnet has also announced that copies of the book, Malaria-Through the eyes of a child, are available to anyone interested in obtaining them. There are a limited number of copies available on a first come, first served basis.

"World Malaria Day has been designated as a chance for all of us to make a difference in the fight against malaria. Due to the fact that it has been proven that education is a vital tool in the arsenal to combat malaria, Bestnet has consistently chosen to develop original educational materials, in a variety of media, for World Malaria Day. In early 2011, we developed a unique and comprehensive malaria educational program for school-aged children," said Trine Sig, Bestnet Managing Director.

Sig continued, "This book documents our activities in celebration of World Malaria Day 2011 as Bestnet personnel and our partners reached out to educate hundreds of school children on 5 continents about malaria and the protection provided by sleeping under our Netprotect® LLINs. The children were asked to inform us about the devastating effects of this life-threatening disease through their own poems, stories and drawings. The children's thoughts and illustrations were so insightful, dramatic and touching that we have chosen to share them by compiling them into this book."

The Bestnet malaria education program includes a basic lesson plan, a large poster that illustrates the life cycle of malaria and a series of original graphic illustrations that convey the message that simple steps that can be taken to prevent malaria transmission, including sleeping under a Netprotect® LLIN. Furthermore, it is an interactive program that includes an engaging exercise that demonstrates the transmission cycle of malaria. The program and all visual aids were specially designed to transcend all age, cultural and language barriers so that the materials can be utilized in any country in the world.

Although the program was originally intended for use on World Malaria Day, it was designed so that it can be used at any time of the year to teach children and adults about malaria, and that sleeping under Netprotect® LLINs can save lives. "Bestnet has been very pleased to learn that our educational materials have continued to be used on a regular basis by schools, NGOs, and faith-based organizations throughout the world. It is our wish to continue to share this program with anyone interested in utilizing it," said Sig.

Therefore, Bestnet's entire program including the lesson plan (in English, Spanish and French), all illustrations and the posters are readily available for download on their website.
