"As the only accredited Heart Failure Institute in Arizona, it is the obligation of Banner Heart Hospital to help all sister facilities within Banner Health achieve accreditation as Heart Failure Centers," said Mark Starling, MD, chief medical officer at Banner Heart Hospital. "This accreditation illustrates the commitment that Banner Health is making to provide outstanding care for patients with heart failure."

"Banner's long term commitment to developing a system-wide approach to heart failure demonstrates their leadership in healthcare," said Dr. Tony Joseph, Colloquium's president and CEO. "Hospital systems can learn much from how Banner is integrating heart failure care in their diverse hospitals."

With a long legacy of putting patient needs first, Banner Health represents excellence in clinical care, education, and research. This dovetails with the Colloquium's continuum of care model, focusing on care within the community and hospital by expert clinicians guided by current science.

"This achievement is a great example of the collaboration between Banner Baywood and Banner Heart," said Laura Robertson, CEO for Banner Baywood Medical Center and Banner Heart Hospital. "It demonstrates our commitment to providing excellent care for heart failure patients on this campus."

"The accreditation process has sharpened our focus across the continuum of care; from promoting awareness within the community, providing superior care and education during an acute stay, to returning to the community post discharge with a strategy to successfully manage heart failure," said Anthony Butcha, RN, a senior RN manager at Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center. "Becoming an Accredited Heart Failure Center demonstrates the commitment our entire staff makes to provide excellent care to our patients and the community we so proudly serve."

The reviewers conducted a detailed review of over a dozen areas of care within four Domains: Community, Hospital, Clinician, and Science.

The Colloquium is the first organization to develop an improvement science based approach to heart failure accreditation using a continuum of care model. It is the only organization that grants Institute and System accreditation for heart failure. Banner Health was just the second system in the national to achieve Heart Failure System Accreditation (October 2012).

The Colloquium's approach to improvement includes traditional process improvement approaches but also embraces the cultural change needed to navigate uncertain times faced by today's leaders.
