Winning the lottery is a dream for most people. On September 10, 2001, it became a reality for Dr. Shirley Press: a reality that brought with it numerous challenges as well as self-discovery. In her book, Pressing My Luck, Dr. Press shares personal life experiences and self-realized revelations from her Florida lottery windfall. Besides being an inspirational tale, Pressing My Luck is meant to provide guidance in dealing with a windfall profit and/or a life changing event. Dr. Shirley Press is a board-certified, pediatric emergency physician and author. She presently works at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL and has 30+ years of experience treating children with acute medical conditions. Her second area of medical expertise is in evaluating and treating victims of child abuse. She is the former director of the Pediatric Emergency Department at Jackson Memorial Hospital and was an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine where she remains a member of its voluntary faculty. Dr. Press received her BA from Brandeis University and her medical degree from Hahnemann Medical College (now Drexel University College of Medicine) in Philadelphia. When not working or writing, Dr. Press devotes her time to charitable work as well as cultural pursuits. Her most recent charitable endeavor was a medical mission to the Dominican Republic this past spring. Dr. Press has also founded a movie club with the intent of sharing her passion for film with others. Having come full circle, Dr. Shirley Press cherishes the simple things in life: from everyday tasks to universe driven synchronizations. For many years, Dr. Press has compiled an assortment of lists that document memorable events, dreams and synchronicities. By being attentive to the moment, she finds a unique spin to life’s events and relishes sharing her explorations.
