Burgess Publishing and Media Inc. Company Profile

Ralph Burgess was born in Newark, New Jersey. After attending Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, he began a fifteen-year career in banking and transportation before he founded InnerCity InnerThoughts Publishing, now Burgess Publishing and Media in 2003 after rejecting many publishing offers for his trademark character, Cool Calvin. Mr. Burgess resigned from Amtrak in May 2005 to concentrate on his publishing career. His company's first release, The Learning Adventures of Cool Calvin, received rave reviews from critics at Book Expo America 2005 and was featured at the prestigious Kids Multi-Cultural Book Festival at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. in November 2005. No Bandanas for Me/Staying Gang Free, an anti-gang children's book, is the latest release in the Cool Calvin series and is currently in more than 500 schools across the country (see www.coolcalvin.com). No Bandanas for Me/Staying Gang Free is the only illustrative anti-gang children's book of its kind in the world for children in primary grades and has been showcased on NBC's Today Show (July '06) as well as dozens of national publications. Mr. Burgess has instructed more than 1,000 teachers across the country on how to maximize the educational advantages of both his anti-gang curriculum, and book during professional development forums. His company is a registered vendor of most major school districts in the country including New York City BOE, Chicago Public Schools and the Los Angeles United School District. Mo The Pallbearer is the first book of Mr. Burgess' young adult series. Expect more to come.
