“The Christ is Not a Person”
BUCKSPORT, Maine, Aug. 12, 2009 — For thousands of years, pioneers in thought and awareness have sought to lead humanity to a greater understanding of itself and thus reality as a whole. In his new book “The Christ is Not a Person: The Evolution of Consciousness and the Destiny of Man” (published by iUniverse), author J.C. Tefft not only demystifies ancient legends and myths, but also probes into deeper meanings of ancient teachings that go well beyond a literal interpretation of the words. He re-examines what ancient scripture might really have to say regarding mankind’s true purpose in life, absent the legends and myths that have clouded the message for so long.
For thousands of years humanity has succumbed to an avalanche of superstitions, legends and myths concerning God, Creation, life and the universe to the extent that this mythological mindset of antiquity is still with us today. As a result, enlightenment has not generally been forthcoming within mankind. We have for the most part become so encumbered with the weight of antiquated thinking, behavior and activity that we only prolong till tomorrow what is at hand today. In “The Christ is Not a Person,” Tefft seeks to take a different approach: to take another look at the teachings of enlightened Masters and search for a more meaningful message than has customarily been put forward over the past few thousand years.
“The Christ is Not a Person” maintains that if one is given to rightly understand the profound teachings of ancient scripture, then such teachings can be a useful tool for enlightenment. To be enlightened is to discover, with Jesus, that we, too, can “come, ye blessed of my Father [and] inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.” This “kingdom” Jesus spoke of is not discovered in a life hereafter, but in this life, now.
Tefft understands that the value of reading ancient scripture is not in the literal interpretation of the words, but in the word’s ability to inspire us into discovering the living Truth in the sanctuary of our being. If the teachings of enlightened Masters inspire us to a better understanding of ourselves, then they have value. Only then are they worth attending to at all.
