ASPAN's Journal of PeriAnesthesia Nursing Accepted by Thompson Reuters

CHERRY HILL, N.J., Aug. 3, 2011 — The American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses announced today that its Journal of PeriAnesthesia Nursing (JoPAN) has been accepted for coverage in Thompson Reuters' abstracting and indexing services, including the Journal Citation Reports (JCR). JCR follows the world's most influential journals in the sciences and social sciences and establishes each publication's impact factor, which measures the number of times an article is cited in scholarly publications and is often correlated with its influence.

"The fact that JoPAN will be assigned an impact factor makes it one of a select group of specialty nursing journals to achieve that status," says JoPAN Co-Editor, Dr. Jan Odom-Forren. Her colleague and Co-Editor, Dr. Vallire Hooper, agrees adding, "An impact factor will also help JoPAN attract authors who specifically pursue such journals, as publication in journals with an impact factor is important to the pursuit of tenure and future academic appointments."

The Journal of PeriAnesthesia Nursing is an international publication of the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses and provides original, peer-reviewed research, evidence-based practice, and clinical articles for nurses in perianesthesia settings, which include preadmission testing, postanesthesia care, ambulatory surgery, and pain management. In commenting on JCR's inclusion of the Journal, ASPAN President, Chris Price, remarked, "This is exciting news, as it will further advance perianesthesia nursing practice and supports our vision to be the leading association in the field." JoPAN is published by Elsevier (New York, NY), and circulation totals 14,000. The first edition appeared in 1986.

The American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses represents the interests of over 55,000 nurses who practice in preanesthesia and postanesthesia care, outpatient surgery, and pain management. Additional information regarding ASPAN is available online at: http://www.aspan.org.
