WASHINGTON, Jan. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Application development is one of the fastest growing industries in the world, and the number of app developers and their potential salaries are growing steadily. This new infographic, commissioned by the Application Developers Alliance and designed by infogr8, reveals the results of a survey released by GigaOM and the Alliance. The survey gives a clearer idea of who application developers are, what they're earning, and the current and predicted future states of the applications market.

The infographic compares the salary figures for app developers to other occupations in the U.S., giving an idea of how app development shapes up against other industries. In what may come as a surprise, app developers are at the top of the pile.

The average full-time app developer is earning an average of $75,000 a year. To put that into perspective, the average salary for a lawyer is $64,000, a doctor $57,000 and a teacher only $43,000. Also noted is that the average salary in the US is $45,250.

Looking at the profile, the average app developer is not a young guy in his mom and dad's basement like you might imagine, but is in fact a well-educated 33-year-old. Meanwhile, 30 percent of the survey respondents have more than four years experience in the field, and over half have more than two years. While 54% of app developers come from North America, the industry is certainly becoming more global, with respondents to the survey coming from all over the world.

All of these stats and more are presented in the infographic, so have a look to find out about this thriving new industry. Who knows – maybe you'll even find that app development is your next career.
