America’s Vacation Center Holds Most Successful Hawai’i Training in the Industry

Specialized destination curriculum provides unparalleled value to agents

SAN DIEGO, April 30, 2007 — America’s Vacation Center (AVC), one of the leading host travel agencies in North America and beyond, today announced the overwhelming success of its "Destination: Hawai’i" specialization certification training. Presented by America’s Vacation Center University(TM) (AVCU), the series offered extensive Hawai’i product-focused training for its independently owned and operated affiliates interested in becoming certified with the Hawai’i Visitors and Convention Bureau (HVCB).

AVCU partnered with American Express Vacations, Holland America Line, HVCB, Norwegian Cruise Line, and Pleasant Holidays to bring the six-hour "Destination: Hawai’i" training to its agents. AVC agents were provided supplemental training not only on Hawai’i itself, but also the specific products provided by numerous vendors.

"The bottom line is that specialists offer more value to consumers than generalists. AVC believes this wholeheartedly and that’s why we offer destination training programs such as the Hawai’i series to provide our affiliated agents an opportunity to specialize in a handful of products and boost their revenue substantially," said Van Anderson, Co-President of AVC. "We were honored to partner with the State of Hawai’i and leading vendors on this highly beneficial program."

The "Destination: Hawai’i" training focused on land tours, cruise tours, and pre / post hotel stays before or after Hawaiian Island cruises. After completing the three-part training course and HVCB’s online examination, AVC affiliated agents had their names included in HVCB’s online and call-center based consumer referral program and received certification through the Bureau, a program Elizabeth Johnsen, Staff Vice President of Pleasant Holidays, was instrumental in revamping.

"AVCU’s recent Hawai’i product specialization course was hands-down the most impressive we have been involved with," said Marsha Wienert, Hawai’i Tourism Liaison. "Not only was the turnout remarkable, but the number of vendors AVC got on board to provide in-depth Hawai’i product training was truly extraordinary. This series thoroughly familiarized AVC affiliated agents with various Hawai’i product offerings, which will help them better sell Hawai’i vacations."

AVCU frequently offers certification courses specializing in destinations including Alaska, Hawai’i, Mexico, and more.
