The American Fertility Association Releases Infertility Awareness Stamp

Love Letter Campaign supports message of National Infertility Awareness Week® (NIAW)

NEW YORK, March 27, 2012 — The American Fertility Association (The AFA) announced today the release of a postage stamp highlighting infertility awareness. The stamp is the cornerstone of The AFA's Love Letter Campaign, a new, patient-driven movement designed by The American Fertility Association in support of this year's NIAW theme – "Don't Ignore Infertility." By utilizing the stamp on letters of support and encouragement that participants mail to each other, a nationwide, highly visible network will be created, helping to further publicize the message of infertility awareness.

The Love Letter Campaign gives patients the opportunity to support each other. To simply say, "I'm sorry for what you are going through. I understand. I'm going through it, too."

"People today spend so much time on the web. While online support groups can be wonderful, there is nothing that takes the place of a simple, heart-felt, handwritten note," said Corey Whelan, AFA Program Director. She continued by stating, "The Love Letter Campaign will let infertility patients be there for each other in a gentle, non-obtrusive way. Each person participating will also get a Love Letter from an AFA staff member, which will also include educational material. The AFA is looking forward to supporting infertility patients in this way."

The release of the stamp and Love Letter Campaign will coincide with NIAW, which runs from April 22 – 28. An allied non-profit organization, RESOLVE, created NIAW to raise awareness about the disease of infertility and encourage the public to understand their reproductive health. The AFA is proud to join with RESOLVE and other infertility organizations in support of our shared mission.

Information about the Love Letter Campaign can be found at http://www.theafa.org/article/love-letter/. Infertility awareness stamps may be purchased at: http://store.theafa.org. The campaign launches in April and will continue throughout the year. Stamps will be available for purchase, at cost, on The AFA's website indefinitely.
