The American Fertility Association Adds Five New Board Members

Substantial growth for the organization following strategic planning retreat

NEW YORK, Sept. 19, 2011 — The American Fertility Association (The AFA), a 501(c)(3) national non-profit organization, announced today that it has added five new Directors to the Board.

"These new board members represent an amazing time of growth for The AFA as we continue to provide critically needed core services as well as expand into new and exciting areas," said Board Co-Chair Patricia Mendell. "The organization has never had a more talented and dedicated board and staff, which is evident in the quality of the educational materials and programs being produced today," stated Stuart Bell, Board Co-Chair.

Meet the new members:

David Klusendorf has over 30 years of finance and accounting experience. His work experience has been with financial services companies ranging in size from small, fast-growing startups as CFO, to global Fortune 100 firms.  He is currently the Director of Derivatives Operations at Genworth Financial. Having grown up in Wisconsin, he received both his undergraduate degree in Accounting and an MBA in Finance from the University of Wisconsin. He is also a CPA. David lives with his wife and two children in downtown New York City.

Meredith Carr is a marketing and advertising professional who has worked on both the corporate and agency sides of the industry. She co-founded and directed a boutique ad agency in Nashville, Tennessee, with clients spanning health care, hospitality, transportation, the arts, education and real estate. Her current firm, Different Stripe, provides copy, content, editing and proofreading services for advertising agencies, web development firms, corporate marketing departments and small businesses. Meredith holds an MBA from Belmont University. She and her husband, musician/songwriter Vince Melamed, live in Los Angeles.

Judy Kolb received her Bachelor of Science degree from UC Irvine in Biological Science and her Master of Physical Therapy degree from USC. She was active in Student Government and is proud of the research she performed in fields of Neurology and Biomechanics. Her work experience included being a staff P.T. at Centinela Hospital, working for Baxter P.T., and for Northwestern Caremark P.T. She is the proud mother to three beautiful and energetic daughters: Brittany, Kelsey and Caylee. She is married to Dr. Bradford Kolb, a board certified Reproductive Endocrinologist at Huntington Reproductive Center in Pasadena. They reside in La Canada, CA.

Kayvan Salmanpour is a serial entrepreneur who launched the North American division of Mediaplanet in 2007 and successfully grew the company from a start-up into the leading publisher of special-interest reports in the US. By 2010, Mediaplanet was producing over 60 reports a year, with offices in NY, LA and Chicago, partnerships with The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and The New York Times and the majority of Fortune 500 companies as clients, including Pfizer, Goldman Sachs, Walmart and Sony. Kayvan co-founded two new ventures in 2011, including Awareness Day Media – a digital education company producing animated videos on leading health issues. Kayvan received his MBA from the London School of Economics, graduating with a Merit degree.

Richard Vaughn first studied reproductive and fertility law and ethics issues at Loyola University Chicago – School of Law in the early 1990's and has been interested in these issues ever since. From both Chicago and Los Angeles, Rich has assisted a variety of individual, corporate and municipal clients (domestic and international) with contract, business development, marketing, litigation, non-profit and corporate legal needs, and he brings his multi-disciplinary experience to his work in assisting thousands of clients with family formation through assisted reproduction. He is a founding partner of the International Fertility Law Group (IFLG). Rich and his partner Thomas Woelfel were married under California law in 2008 and are the proud parents, through egg donation and surrogacy, of twin boys, Aiden and Austin.
