"Alicewinks brings together 19th century fantasy, 20th century imagery, and 21st century technology," said David Neal, video producer & director and iBook developer.  The images featured in Alicewinks were originally published in deluxe editions of Alice's Adventures between 1901 and 1922.  Artists represented include Arthur Rackham, Margaret W. Tarrant, Mable Lucy Attwell, Bessie Pease Gutmann and eight others.

"Arthur Rackham is probably the best known artist, and his Alice is one of our favorites. In fact, she is the face of Alicewinks (title page animation) and also of our icons," said William McQueen, partner in Walrus & Carpenter, voice director and the voices of the narrator and several other characters.  "Margaret Tarrant's illustrations are widely used in the video, partly because there are 44 of them and also because they are so evocative," added Neal.

In addition to navigation of the video with the usual controls, the viewer can navigate through the original illustrations, both in sequence with the story, or by individual artist.  These images can be viewed in full screen with a single tap, and, once an image is chosen, the viewer can switch to the text at the corresponding point in the story. The video is serialized into the 12 original chapters, each about 15 minutes long, perfect for experiencing Alice in "snack-sized" digital bites.

"We at Walrus & Carpenter are delighted to make this iBook available on the iPad and are excited that a new generation of Alice in Wonderland enthusiasts will be able to enjoy her story in a whole new way."
