Over 3.9 Million Students Take Online College Courses - a New Record

OVERVIEW.COM announces more features on award-winning college and career evaluation website

DALLAS, Aug. 25, 2009 — OVERVIEW.COM college and career website was one of the first databases of colleges and career information on the Internet. It has recently added still more colleges, features, and information to their website, including career videos, government-based career advice and salary information, plus hundreds of links to both campus-based and online schools and colleges.

The Babson Survey Research Group, in Online Education in the United States, 2008, states that over 3.9 million students were taking at least one online course during the fall of 2007 (their most recent survey), and their numbers are growing. Virtually all public higher education institutions, as well as a vast majority of private institutions, now offer online classes.

Online students can attend classes from their home, from their job, or while in another city, using only a computer and Internet connection. Students save huge amounts of time and money. There is no campus to drive to, so no travel expenses, no time invested in commuting to class, no out-of-state fees, and no room and board fees.

Campus students, on the other hand, can attend evening and weekend classes if they work during the day. They offer personal interaction with other students and are great for courses that require hands-on activities, labs, and training.

“Bad economic times have been good for education,” says OVERVIEW President Ralph Greene.  “Those looking for employment realize that good jobs often require specialized education. Those who have jobs want to improve their value to employers and increase their chances of advancement with a training program, certification, or degree.

“OVERVIEW.COM offers exceptional value, providing prospective students and/or their parents easy access to college information and college counselors, all at no cost.”

OVERVIEW.COM offers the following recently added features:

  • Online Colleges sorted by 45 career categories, and the individual courses and programs they offer.
  • Campus Colleges from every state with a ZIP code search to find those nearest you.
  • Technical Colleges sorted by 30 technical career categories.
  • Career Summaries for 85 careers including salary, required training, qualifications, and future job outlook.
  • Career Videos for over 80 selected career fields.

After browsing and selecting a few schools or colleges of interest, free information or conversation with a college representative is only a mouse click away. Enrolling in courses is just as easy.

OVERVIEW.COM can be particularly useful to parents with teens about to graduate from high school, to those in their 20s and 30s wanting to increase their skills and salary through promotion or career changes, and to professionals wanting to get advanced degrees or take specialized courses while still working full-time,” concluded Greene.
