2009 Board of Trustees for the ICF Foundation Announced

Foundation focuses on education, research and charitable purposes in coaching

LEXINGTON, Ky., Dec. 11, 2008 — The members of the 2009 Board of Trustees for the ICF Foundation have been approved by the ICF global Board of Directors. The Foundation exists as a separate nonprofit entity from the International Coach Federation (ICF) and exists exclusively for education, research and charitable purposes in professional coaching.

The 2009 ICF Foundation Board of Trustees will include:

President: Diane Brennan, MBA, MCC(1), (USA); President-Elect: Giovanna D’Alessio, MCC (Italy); Sylviane Cannio, PCC(2) (Belgium); Ginger Cockerham, MCC (USA); Ruth Ann Harnisch (USA); Barbara Walton, MCC (USA); and Beverley Wright, PCC (USA). One additional Board of Trustees member remains to be named.

Objectives of the ICF Foundation include:

  • To create and maintain a volunteer service of professional business and life coaches offering pro-bono coaching;
  • To conduct research and commission member studies on a variety of topics on issues related to the coaching profession;
  • To fund and provide scholarships and/or financial assistance for individual ICF members interested in attending coach training schools; and
  • To carry out other activities consistent with the organization’s 501(c)(3) purposes.

“Much like the ICF, the work of the ICF Foundation is to advance the art, science and practice of professional coaching on a global scale. However, the work of the Foundation is much more fine-tuned to education, research and charitable work in the profession,” said Brennan.

Brennan, who completes her ICF presidency later this month, will assume the role of president of the ICF Foundation in January. “I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as the next president of the Foundation with so many talented and respected coaches. I look forward to 2009,” added Brennan.

ICF defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. Coaching is a distinct service and differs greatly from therapy, consulting, mentoring or training. Individuals who engage in a coaching relationship can expect to experience fresh perspectives on personal challenges and opportunities, enhanced thinking and decision-making skills, enhanced interpersonal effectiveness, and increased confidence in carrying out their chosen work and life roles.

The International Coach Federation is the leading global organization for coaches, with over 15,000 members in 92 countries, dedicated to advancing the coaching profession by setting high ethical standards, providing independent certification, and building a worldwide network of credentialed coaches. The ICF is the only organization that awards a global credential which is currently held by over 4,400 coaches worldwide.
