Press Release
Congressional Primary Challenger Shirley Golub Calls the
Speaker of the House Out as a Political Coward
'Rubber Chicken' TV Ad Ruffles Nancy Pelosi's Feathers in
San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO, May 12, 2008 -- As reported by KPIX CBS 5
TV's Joe Vazquez in San Francisco as a featured news story
both Wednesday and Thursday, a new political ad has the
Speaker of the House running scared. In it, Shirley Golub,
who is challenging Nancy Pelosi for the Democratic party
nomination in California's 8th Congressional district,
compares Pelosi to a rubber chicken for her cowardice in not
standing up to the White House on impeachment, ending the
funding for the Iraq occupation, and more.

Shirley Golub says, "We did not put Democrats in the
majority to replace a rubber stamp Congress with a rubber
spine one. We the people gave them an overwhelming mandate
in the last election, but they have been terrified to take
responsibility for exercising that power."
When contacted by the KPIX reporter, Nadeam Elshami, a
spokesperson for the Speaker of the House claimed she had
not seen the rubber chicken ad yet. "Well," says Golub, "in
that case I'll just have to keep the ad running until Nancy
starts paying attention to what's going on in her own
district."
Shirley Golub goes on to add, "It's craven enough that our
Democratic so-called leadership is talking about choking up
another 100 billion dollar emergency appropriation, for the
occupation nobody wants. But to shy away from even
confronting that debacle again in the fall, they are
planning on surrendering another 70 billion dollars in
advance, to make sure our troops will not come home anytime
soon."
One thing that especially intrigued the KPIX TV was where
Golub was getting the money to run all these expensive
political ads, which can run from hundreds to thousands of
dollars each. ays Golub, "We have been very successful
raising money through ActBlue. As a fund raising resource
they do not take sides in a primary. But progressive
candidates like myself have been able to self-fund through
their processing service, which is how Donna Edwards
defeated 7-time congressional incumbent Al Wynn in February.
And more and more people are telling me that I'm about to
do the same thing in San Francisco."
A rubber chicken may be good for a laugh, and the laughter you
hear in the commercial is from an actual recording of a
recent town hall meeting on Iraq, where Golub introduced the
rubber stand-in for the first time. But Golub is very
serious about her challenge. She concludes, "We all have to
start standing up more, to speak out, to have the courage of
our convictions to demand that our representatives pay heed.
And that is what my web site, shirley08.com, and my
candidacy are all about."
