SAGE Learning Organization Receives Grant to Create
Scholarships for High School Education in India
FORT COLLINS, Colo., April 20, 2007 -- SAGE (Studies Abroad
for Global Education) is a unique non-profit organization,
providing opportunities for North American and European high
schools students to study in India. The institution's
multicultural orientation was recently recognized by the
Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, which granted the SAGE Program
their 2007 Innovation Fund Award for its "Fostering Global
Citizens" project.
A grant of $148,000 was awarded to the Colorado-based SAGE
organization (along with Friends of Woodstock School). The
grant will serve to double the size of SAGE's summer program
in India and to create a scholarship fund so that
economically disadvantaged American students can see the
wider world, firsthand. Up until receiving this grant, SAGE
had been unable to provide scholarships to either the summer
or full-year programs.
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation grant will now allow SAGE to
provide 10 full scholarships per year to high-achieving,
low-income students so that they become more globally aware
and culturally sensitive. The SAGE grant was one of seven
awards the foundation made in 2007, all of which funded
programs of international study that held "special promise"
for helping high-achieving, low-income high-school students
to broaden their horizons.
About SAGE:
Founded in 1992, Studies Abroad for Global Education (SAGE)
is a non-profit educational organization which seeks to
build global awareness through a variety of high school and
summer abroad programs in India.
US, Canadian, and European students attend one of two
schools on the sub-continent. Both long-established
accredited schools have high-caliber curriculums taught
completely in English. Students come from a wide range of
countries, making the Woodstock and Kodai Schools alike a
veritable "United Nations" of school environments.
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, based in Lansdowne,
Virginia, helps high-achieving students with financial need
reach their full potential through education by providing
several scholarship and grant programs.
