Big 5 Sporting Goods Will Roll Out New Fire Safety Device
for Consumers in Its 311 Stores July 4th Weekend
Environmentally Safe 'FlameOut' Stops Spot Fires, Leading
Cause of Tragic Death and Property Loss
LONGVIEW, Texas, June 23, 2005 -- With summer outdoor
activities such as grilling and campfires, some of the
nation's leading causes of spot fires, Big 5 Sporting Goods
will be the first leading retailer to offer Summit
Environmental Corporation's (OTC Bulletin Board: SEVT) new
non-toxic, environmentally safe, FlameOut(R) aerosol can
fire extinguisher over the July 4th weekend in its 311
stores in the western United States. They will be the first
major retailer to carry Summit's revolutionary aerosol can
fire extinguishers.
FlameOut(R) (also the chemical contents' name) is unlike
ordinary fire extinguishing products because of its unique
chemical properties that are proven effective to stop spot
fires and, more importantly, prevents them from spreading or
reigniting. The properties of FlameOut(R) completely
suppress a fire by removing oxygen, which smothers the fire,
removes the heat to cool the fire and encapsulates the fire
to inhibit reignition.
The product is also the only aerosol can fire extinguisher
validated and listed in accordance to the requirements for
portable fire extinguishers (NFPA 10) by Applied Research
Laboratories. FlameOut(R), the chemical concentrate encased
in the can, is non-toxic and is one of only seven
replacements for the ozone-depleting, globally banned
fire-fighting agent Halon certified by the U.S. EPA SNAP
Program. FlameOut(R) is the only environmentally friendly
product listed by the United States Forestry Service used in
forest fires on its 5100-307 List.
FlameOut(R) was designed to put out spot fires, those
relatively small fires caused by campfires, cooking, and
overheated outdoor equipment, or other household fires that
start small and, if treated quickly, will not spread and
cause injury and damage.
"The success of the FlameOut(R) aerosol can fire
extinguisher is that it is proven effective, easy to use and
is affordably safe at about $19.95 a can," said Summit
Chairman and CEO Keith Parker. "We are pleased to team up
with Big 5 to offer this product to their customers at this
very important time of year so families can be better
prepared to combat spot fires in their kitchens, workshops
and other places within the home, as well as RVs, trailers
and boats."
Another key benefit of FlameOut(R) is that unlike water or
powdered extinguishers, its ingredients will not cause
residual damage. FlameOut(R) is non-toxic and
environmentally friendly, just needing to be wiped up with a
paper towel.
Big 5 Sporting Goods, headquartered in El Segundo, CA
operates 311 stores in 10 states, providing a full line of
products offered at compelling values, including athletic
shoes, apparel and accessories, as well as a broad selection
of athletic equipment for team sports, fitness, camping,

skating.
