Press ReleaseOglio Records to Release First Solo Effort from Nerf Herder Front Man Parry GrippLOS ANGELES, April 28, 2005 -- On May 10th, the Oglio Entertainment Group will release 'For Those About To Shop, We Salute You,' Parry Gripp's first venture into solo territory.Parry Gripp is best known for his work with Nerf Herder, a band he started with drummer Steve Sherlock and bassist Charlie Dennis in his Santa Barbara garage. The band quickly evolved into a left-of-center, punk-pop trio that gained success with their first single 'Van Halen' (a tongue-in-cheek character assassination of the band's career), as well as fan favorites 'Nosering Girl,' 'Sorry' and 'Courtney'. Parry has often written songs with clever lyrics and witty commentary on alterna-culture icons, nerds and losers; just ask Sammy Hagar or Courtney Love. He has also enjoyed national television success, having written the theme song for Buffy The Vampire Slayer. While enjoying some down time between projects with Nerf Herder, Parry was contacted by an advertising firm who was looking for a song to help promote a frozen waffle product that came with its own dipping sauce. "My interest was piqued by the project's absurdity (and the mention of $20,000)," said Parry. On 'For Those About To Shop, We Salute You,' Parry turned his focus to jingles. "My first attempt was 'Do You Like Waffles,' which I wrote in five minutes. Bingo, I felt I was at the top of my game and for the first time in a while, I was really enjoying writing music." Oglio label President Carl Caprioglio was immediately taken by Parry's demo CD. "I have been a Nerf Herder fan since seeing them at SXSW a few years back. When Parry sent me the demo for this project, I knew it was perfect for Oglio." Oglio has a history of releasing music with a sense of humor from bands like Sparks, Red Peters, Richard Cheese, Bud E. Luv, in addition to great stand up talent like Jackie "The Joke Man" Martling and George Lopez. With his creative talent and atypical humor, Parry has come up with 50 little ditties in various musical styles that include songs about everything from nachos to trucks, which will have the listener either rolling on the floor or heading to the store with a serious case of the munchies.
