Press Release
GPI and Dr. K.A. Paul Race to Bring Aid to South Asia
Following the Most Devastating Earthquake and Tsunami
Disaster
Offers Organization's 747-SP Airplane 'Global Peace One' to
Aid Distribution and Ferry Media
NEW YORK, Dec. 29, 2004 -- Dr. K.A. Paul and Global Peace
Initiative (GPI) are urgently responding to the outcry for
help coming from the disaster-affected areas in South Asia.
GPI is offering fellow non-governmental organizations (NGO)
responding to this catastrophic crisis, a wealth of local
volunteers from GPI's ranks on the ground in the region
throughout the affected areas; and GPI's plane, Global Peace
One, a 747-SP, to be used around the clock to ferry supplies
and personnel to Chennai, India; Colombo, Sri Lanka; and the
Aceh Province, Indonesia. GPI is offering to work
collaboratively with individuals and organizations
responding to this crisis.
Dr. K.A. Paul, GPI Founder and President, said, "We are
making Global Peace One available to deliver medical
personnel and supplies, rations and other needs, and to
ferry the press to and from the affected areas. We also
encourage people and NGOs to take advantage of our on-site
personnel."
History's most catastrophic tsunami has directly hit many of
the areas in which GPI and Dr. K.A. Paul has its most
extensive networks. Marine Beach in Chennai (Madras), India,
is where Dr. Paul held a Peace Rally with more than
2,000,000 participants two years ago during the
India-Pakistan standoff. Marine Beach is now one of the most
devastated areas.
Dr. Paul is monitoring the situation on the ground as
reports are coming from GPI volunteers throughout the
region. Based on these reports, GPI has reason to believe
the death toll is much higher than is currently being
reported. Dr. Paul will be in New York later this evening
and available for interviews until further notice. In
response to the unfolding disaster, GPI is making an urgent
public appeal for financial support and aviation fuel
donations to cover the costs of this massive relief effort.
