Senator Steve Rauschenberger Announces Bid for United States Senate

ELGIN, Ill., Sept. 23, 2003 -- Before a crowd of three hundred people, State Senator Steve Rauschenberger announced today that he was seeking the Illinois Republican nomination to the United States Senate.

Citing his strong family support, twelve year legislative record in the Illinois Senate, and the unprecedented endorsement of over thirty of his Senate and House colleagues, Rauschenberger promised to take us "...on a whirlwind journey throughout this great state. I will keep sprinting, and with your help and the grace of God, I will cross the finish line first next March."

During his announcement speech, Rauschenberger acknowledged the tough fight ahead, but said there are "...portraits of courage everywhere." He alluded to the soldiers guarding the Tombs of the Unknowns, who although they were granted permission to leave their posts during the mighty Hurricane Isabel, none left.

"If those lonely sentries are ready to march, without witness, to protect and defend, at all costs, our heritage, our families, our freedom, our nation -- I am ready as well," said Rauschenberger.

Steve Rauschenberger is a three term State Senator from the 22nd District, a district that encompasses portions of both Cook and Kane Counties. He was first elected to the Senate in 1993 and has served in various positions, including Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. In 2003, he was appointed Assistant Republican Leader of the Illinois Senate and elected Vice-President of the National Conference of State Legislators.

Senator Rauschenberger, a native of Elgin, is the Hanover Township Committeeman. He is a full-time legislator and married to his high school sweetheart, Betty, a teacher. They have two children, Mike and Hank.

Authorized and paid for by Rauschenberger for US Senate Committee. Not paid for by Government Expense.
