Allina.com and Medformation.com Named "Best of the Best"
Columbia, MD (Oct. 20, 2000) - Allina Health System's web
site Allina.com has been named "Best of the Best" in
healthcare provider Web sites by Modern Healthcare magazine
and the CSC (Computer Sciences Corporation) Healthcare
Group. A resource found in Allina.com is Medformation.com,
the regional healthcare Web portal designed by Allina Health
System and HealthOnline, Inc. Many of the special features
cited in the award are found on Medformation.com.
Medformation.com was launched last year by Allina Health
System, a Minnetonka, Minnesota-based integrated healthcare
delivery system. Medformation.com was developed to provide
consumers with information on diseases and conditions,
medical news stories, and message boards and chats, and
allow consumers to purchase products, all from their own
local physicians and caregivers.
"The Internet is vast and can be very impersonal," said
Laura Kinkead, vice president of marketing at Allina.
"Healthcare is personal. Research shows people want
information from their doctors. We've got those local
connections. People know us and trust us; that's our
advantage over the larger national Web sites and we kept
that in mind as we designed this portal."
The "Quest for the Best" contest sponsored by Modern
Healthcare and CSC looked at three different types of Web
sites: a health system, a stand-alone hospital and a medical
group. The judges looked at performance/usability;
administrative-user content and function; consumer-user
content and function and clinical-user content and function
There was one winner and two finalists for each of the three
categories. Allina, the "Best of the Best" was chosen from
the three winners.
